Millard South does not need Friday's game to prove it can score. Eight wins and 399 points have already established that. The more revealing question against unbeaten Omaha Westside is whether the Patriots can put their offense and defense together against the team ranked immediately above them in the coaches poll.

The Patriots host Westside at 7 p.m. Central on Friday, Oct. 23. Both teams are 8-0, with Westside No. 1 and Millard South No. 2 in the Oct. 18 Hurrdat Sports coaches poll. This is a team breakdown to accompany our full game preview, not a prediction of the final score.

A different defensive finish to the regular season

The Patriots' eight NSAA-sourced finals add up to 399 points scored and 159 allowed. Their last three results are 59-0 over Millard West, 63-7 over Omaha Westview and 65-0 over Lincoln East. Combined, that is a 187-7 scoring advantage. The full eight-game averages are 49.9 points scored and 19.9 allowed, rounded to one decimal.

Those recent margins deserve attention without being treated as a guarantee. Westside has scored 409 points through eight games, and these teams have no common opponent. Millard South's recent defensive results establish momentum; they do not tell us exactly how the Patriots will perform against this particular offense.

Eight game boxes behind Taylor's totals

We checked the individual MaxPreps game boxes for all eight Millard South games on Oct. 20, including its Missouri opponents and the Lincoln East finale. Those reports credit Trae Taylor with 159 completions on 244 attempts for 2,383 passing yards and 31 passing touchdowns, plus 672 rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns. The yardage comes from adding reported game lines, not multiplying a rounded per-game average.

Player coverage can differ: the receiving lines labeled A. Ellis cover six games and total 611 yards and seven receiving touchdowns. An absent player line is not a zero and does not establish an injury or an absence. The linked player statistics retain their reported-game counts; these figures are MaxPreps reports, not an NSAA-certified individual-stat ledger.

There is a separately reported look at the latest outing: Hurrdat Sports reported that Taylor completed 20 of 22 passes for 312 yards and six touchdowns against Lincoln East. Its account also credited Millard South with holding the Spartans to 17 yards and three first downs. Those are figures from that game, not additions to an assumed complete season ledger.

What would make Friday a good night for the Patriots?

The first question is whether Millard South can make Westside sustain possessions. A defense can change a game's shape without producing another shutout: forcing additional third downs or denying quick scores can give an offense more chances to work. We do not have a complete, verified third-down dataset, so this is a viewing key rather than a statistical claim about either team.

The second question is whether the Patriots can keep their own offense out of obvious passing situations. Taylor's ability to contribute as a runner makes the backfield important to the matchup, but a reported rushing average is not a forecast. Watch how Westside responds to the quarterback as well as the ball carrier, rather than assuming the Lincoln East result will repeat.

Finally, Millard South has already had to finish close games. It beat Millard North 35-34 and Omaha North 49-47. Those results show two narrow wins on the record; they do not prove a late-game advantage over Westside. They do make a close fourth quarter a different kind of test from the Patriots' last three outings.
