This is where Nebraska's four largest football classes stand heading into Week 9. NSAA's wildcard points updated at 7:42 a.m. CT Saturday, Oct. 17, after most of Week 8. Fourteen Week 8 games still had no score on NSAA's export at that update, and NSAA tiebreakers are not applied here.

Everything below is projected unless it says clinched. Points are NSAA's regular-season point averages, and ranks are NSAA's order by those points. Clinches are counted conservatively from NSAA's district records. Classes D1 through D6 are in a companion story.

Class A

Millard South (8-0) leads Class A with 45.8750 points, ahead of Omaha Westside (8-0, 45.1250) and Bennington (7-0, 44.4286). Class A has no district bids. The top 16 teams by points qualify.

Lincoln Standing Bear (4-3) holds the 16th and last projected spot at 39.2857. Lincoln North Star and Lincoln Southwest (both 5-3) are tied for 14th at 39.5000. Just outside are Bellevue West (4-4, 38.5000), North Platte (5-3, 38.3750) and Lincoln Southeast (4-4, 38.1250). Standing Bear's Week 8 home game against Bennington had no NSAA score at the update, so both teams' numbers can still move. NSAA's district standings do not list Class A games, so Class A's Week 9 matchups are in our Class A Week 9 preview.

Class B

Gretna (8-0) leads Class B with 45.1250 points, followed by Scottsbluff (8-0, 43.2500) and Omaha Skutt Catholic (7-1, 43.0000). Skutt's numbers include its 35-6 win at Plattsmouth, which NSAA posted at 8:24 a.m. Five teams have clinched a top-3 district finish, which is a playoff berth: Omaha Skutt Catholic and Gretna East in B-1, Gretna and Waverly in B-2 and Scottsbluff in B-3. The B-4 champion also qualifies, and Blair and Crete are tied (projected) for that lead at 3-0.

NSAA's football manual gives two different breakdowns of Class B's 16-team field: its awards page lists 4 district champions and 12 other qualifiers, while its Class B playoff section lists the top three in B-1 to B-3, the B-4 champion and six wild cards, so this story does not state a cutoff. By points alone, McCook (4-4, 37.0000) is 15th and Lincoln Pius X (2-6, 34.6250) is 16th.

Week 9's biggest district games are Gretna East (4-0 in the district) at Omaha Skutt Catholic (4-0) in B-1, Northwest (3-1) at Scottsbluff (4-0) in B-3 and Crete at Blair in B-4. McCook (2-2) also visits Aurora (3-1) in B-3.

Class C1

Sidney (8-0) leads C1 with 43.8750 points, with Chadron (7-1, 43.0000) and Pierce (8-0, 42.8750) next. Syracuse has clinched the C1-3 district title outright. The field is the six district champions plus 10 wild cards by points, so NSAA's data does not set a points cutoff until the district races finish. By points alone, Auburn (4-4, 38.1250) is 15th, Alliance (4-4, 38.0000) is 16th and Mount Michael Benedictine (3-5, 37.3750) is 17th.

In C1-1, Omaha Roncalli Catholic (3-0 in the district) visits Boys Town (2-0) on Thursday, with the two tied (projected) for the lead. Boys Town's Week 8 game at Fort Calhoun had no NSAA score yet. District leaders Pierce (3-0, at Central City) and Sidney (3-0, hosting Cozad) both face teams that are 2-1 in their districts.

Class C2

Grand Island Central Catholic (8-0) leads C2 with 45.3750 points, ahead of Bergan Catholic (8-0, 44.0000) and Ord (7-1, 43.8750). Cedar Catholic (C2-4) and Mitchell (C2-6) have clinched district titles outright. Like C1, the field is six district champions and 10 wild cards, so there is no fixed points cutoff yet. By points, Omaha Brownell Talbot and West Point-Beemer are tied for 15th at 38.7500, with Lincoln Lutheran 17th at 38.6250.

Bergan Catholic visits Yutan in Week 9, and both teams are 8-0 overall and 4-0 in C2-1. Fillmore Central (3-1) visits Malcolm (4-0) in C2-2, West Point-Beemer (3-1) visits Boone Central (4-0) on Thursday in C2-3, and Grand Island Central Catholic (3-0) plays at Gothenburg (2-1) in C2-5. Wilber-Clatonia, tied for 13th by points, had no NSAA score yet for its Week 8 home game against H&H.
