Nebraska girls basketball 2026-27: key dates from first practice to state

Nebraska girls basketball for the 2026-27 season starts with the first day of winter practice on Monday, Nov. 16, 2026, according to the NSAA 2026-27 activities calendar (NSAA 2026-27 activities calendar, retrieved Oct. 13, 2026).

Key dates

• Nov. 16, 2026: start of winter practice
• Nov. 23-25, Nov. 27-28, Nov. 30 and Dec. 1: basketball jamboree dates
• Dec. 3, 2026: first winter contests
• Dec. 23-27, 2026: five-day practice and competition moratorium
• March 3-6, 2027: NSAA Girls Basketball Championships, Lincoln
• March 10-13, 2027: NSAA Boys Basketball Championships, Lincoln

All dates are from the NSAA calendar (NSAA 2026-27 activities calendar, retrieved Oct. 13, 2026). The NSAA had not announced individual state tournament sites or session times as of Oct. 13.

Classes

NSAA basketball runs six classes: A, B, C1, C2, D1 and D2. The NSAA class lists posted on Oct. 13 are still the 2025-26 lists. The 2026-27 girls basketball classifications had not been published, so NEB Preps has not assigned any team a 2026-27 class yet (NSAA girls basketball class list (2025-26), retrieved Oct. 13, 2026). This page will be updated when NSAA posts the new lists.

Schedules and wildcard points

Basketball schedules feed the NSAA wildcard point system, the same system football uses. Schools enter their schedules on the NSAA wildcard site. The schedules page is where results appear once games are played (NSAA girls basketball wildcard schedules, retrieved Oct. 13, 2026). Co-op teams are listed by NSAA on its approved cooperative sponsorships page. NEB Preps uses those official co-op names on team pages (NSAA approved co-ops, retrieved Oct. 13, 2026).

Before practice starts

The NSAA calendar lists Oct. 1, 2026, as the deadline for winter co-op applications and for winter activity registration. It lists Sept. 1 as the due date for competitive equity applications for winter activities (NSAA 2026-27 activities calendar, retrieved Oct. 13, 2026). Any class changes from those applications will show up when NSAA publishes the 2026-27 class lists.

What NEB Preps will cover

Girls basketball scores, standings and team pages go live on NEB Preps once the season starts Dec. 3. The girls basketball hub will show schedules as schools post them. Nothing will be listed until it is published. Coverage builds toward the state championships in Lincoln, March 3-6, 2027 (NSAA 2026-27 activities calendar, retrieved Oct. 13, 2026).

Football and softball fans: the football playoff projections and the state softball tournament page are live now.
