Both teams are 4-4, but they are standing in very different spots. Creighton Prep is 11th in Class A's NSAA wildcard standings at 40.000, tied with Millard West. Bellevue West is 17th at 38.125, tied with Lincoln Southeast, and 0.750 points behind today's 16th-place mark of 38.875.

The game is Thursday, Oct. 22, at Bellevue West. Kickoff time has not been posted on our schedule yet.

The playoff picture

For Bellevue West, this is the kind of game that decides a season. The Thunderbirds have won three straight, but they are on the outside today, and the teams just above them all play this week. For Prep, a loss would not end anything on its own, but it would drop the Junior Jays' average toward the crowd near the line.

That matters because of the streak. NSAA's record book lists Prep with 46 playoff appearances, the most in state history, and a run of 30 straight that began in 1995. Prep also has the most state championships, nine.

Bar chart of Class A NSAA point averages for teams ranked 9 through 22, with Creighton Prep 11th at 40.000 and Bellevue West 17th at 38.125 highlighted, and a dashed line at 16th place, 38.875.

Bellevue West started 1-4, with losses to Brandon Valley of South Dakota (10-7), Omaha North (15-7), Westside (60-20) and Papillion-La Vista South (48-6). Since then it has won three in a row: 29-26 over Lincoln East, 55-14 at Bellevue East and 61-6 at Omaha South.
